What’s the etiquette when giving a engagement ring and the marriage does not take place?

Engagement is a verbal contract for marriage that is usually sealed by the giving and accepting of the offer and a ring. Being that this is a contract the reason for the desolation of the relationship will dictate who keeps the ring.
If she calls it off of her own accord, him having done nothing “wrong”, he gets the ring back
If he calls it off, she having done nothing “wrong”, she keeps the ring.
If there was infidelity, the cheating party forfeits the ring even if the other party calls the wedding off.
